Asbury Park, NJ – January 18, 2022 – The Boys & Girls Clubs of Monmouth County hosted a teen employment workshop at its Asbury Park Unit on Saturday. Over 40 teens attended the four-hour interactive session, which provided career coaching and professional development training. During the final hour of the workshop, attendees were invited to interview for paid youth development professional positions at the Boys & Girls Club.
Notable sessions of the workshop included “Career Exploration,” presented by Jill Donovan of Brookdale Community College; “College Readiness” by Sherri Stanford, also of Brookdale; “Financial Literacy” by Duane Montgomery of Bank of America; and “Resume Writing and Interview Skills” by Destiny Smith and Daniel Rivera of the Boys & Girls Club.
“Finding meaningful employment in our area is difficult for teenagers, which is why workshops like this one are so important. These kids want to plan for their futures,” said Daniel Rivera, the Club’s Greater Asbury Park Area Director.
Since 2018, the Club has been administering a robust teen empowerment and employment program in Asbury Park. The program, Learning, Earning, and Advancing Dreams (Project L.E.A.D.), helps youth develop skills needed to succeed in life by focusing on mentorship, employment, and educational attainment. In partnership with the city of Asbury Park, the Club will be expanding the scope and impact of Project L.E.A.D., and the Club is poised to launch the program in other sites throughout Monmouth County this year.
