Our arts programs encourage artistic expression among members through dance, photography, drama, and visual art variations including drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, mixed media, and sculpture. Our technology programs have been instrumental in helping our kids bridge the digital divide by providing them with access to tools and resources not available outside of the traditional school day. Our members are developing critically important skills and competencies that will provide them with greater opportunities for future success.

Y-Media

One of the kids’ favorite programs, Y-Media teaches the various aspects of digital video production and editing.  Our members are producing their own student-led talk show where they learn how to deliver on-camera performances, interviewing skills, audio technology, and camera operation. Most importantly, they learn how to express themselves and build self-esteem.

Hip Hop Institute

The Hip Hop Institute was launched in partnership with the Asbury Park Music Foundation and Lakehouse Music Academy (LHMA), a local progressive music school committed to the development of comprehensive musicianship for every student. Instructors from LHMA come to the Club to run workshops during teen nights. In addition to learning how to mix music utilizing state-of- the-art DJ equipment, participants acquire the skills necessary for writing, producing, and marketing their creations. Students explore the back-end process of producing a record including editing, sound engineering, and branding. Learning from industry professionals and team members of BGCM, classes are centered on the musical interests of the students and teach computer literacy and real-world applications of these concepts. With mentorship from LHMA staff, the participants developed their own record label called “illLusions.” Support for this program comes from the Jules L. Plangere, Jr. Family Foundation.

Cybersafety

At the Club we teach Internet safety skills through engaging multimedia activities and offline interaction with Club professionals in three age-appropriate groups.

The Yummy Kitchen

“The Yummy Kitchen” is our student-led cooking show. It’s a chance for our members to try their hands at cooking and baking techniques while learning technical skills like creating proper lighting, microphone placement, and how to deliver on-camera performances. Check out past episodes on our YouTube channel!

Youth Arts

Youth Arts is a nationally recognized Boys & Girls Clubs of America program that encourages young people to explore their creativity and express themselves through drawing, painting, and mixed-media projects.

Coding and App Design

Through our partnership with Apple Education, youth engage in hands-on learning focused on coding and app development. This program introduces students to industry-standard tools and practices while fostering creativity and problem-solving skills.
