Hip Hop Institute

The Hip Hop Institute was launched in partnership with the Asbury Park Music Foundation and Lakehouse Music Academy (LHMA), a local progressive music school committed to the development of comprehensive musicianship for every student. Instructors from LHMA come to the Club to run workshops during teen nights. In addition to learning how to mix music utilizing state-of- the-art DJ equipment, participants acquire the skills necessary for writing, producing, and marketing their creations. Students explore the back-end process to producing a record including editing, sound engineering, and branding. Learning from industry professionals and team members of BGCM, classes are centered on the musical interests of the students and teach computer literacy and real-world applications of these concepts. With mentorship from LHMA staff, the participants developed their own record label called “illLusions.” Support for this program comes from the Jules L. Plangere, Jr. Family Foundation.
