Since 1938, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monmouth County has been empowering young people — especially those who need us most — to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens.

In the 86 years since our founding, the Club has become the county’s most trusted youth development organization, serving more than 1000 children and teens annually with comprehensive programming aimed at preparing our young people for the future. To accomplish our goal, safety has to be at the center of everything we do.

This is why we administer evidence-based, nationally tested, and proven programs focused on gang and violence prevention. Learn more from our CEO Douglas Eagles about how our Club provides critical support to youth who are most at risk in this recent Asbury Park Press op-ed.

The following is an excerpt from Doug Eagle’s Op-Ed “Asbury Park Boys & Girls Club stands as a beacon of hope turn the tide of gang violence”

Regarding “In Asbury Park, gang violence impacts the community. What’s being done to stop it?,” Jan. 3, app.com:

After reading Jenna Calderón’s recent article, I am compelled to share the good work being done right here in our community to turn the tide on violence. As the CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monmouth County, I have had the privilege of witnessing firsthand how our organization stands as a beacon of hope in the midst of gang violence, particularly in Asbury Park. Today, I want to share our continued commitment to providing a safe haven and fostering hope and resilience for the children in our community. Furthermore, I want to highlight a remarkable individual who embodies the transformative power of our club.

Asbury Park is all too familiar with gang-related incidents, leaving families and children grappling with an environment impacted by violence and crime. It is a challenge that calls for a unified community effort, and the Boys & Girls Club is resolute in playing a pivotal role.
