Fundraising events play a crucial role in supporting the mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of Monmouth County, and volunteers like Joe Baumann help make them a success. Since 2015, Joe has been an integral part of our volunteer event committee, bringing creativity and dedication to our biggest annual fundraiser. As an accomplished real estate agent with The Connolly Agency, Joe understands the importance of strong communities—and he channels that same commitment into helping provide life-shaping opportunities for local youth. We caught up with Joe to learn more about his background, his passion for giving back, and what keeps him involved year after year.
What first drew you to Boys & Girls Clubs of Monmouth County, and how did you get involved with the event committee?
My friend Hana was the chair of the Club’s biggest fundraising event, A Most Unusual Evening, and she asked me if I would help out. I loved the cause and thought it was time I stepped up.
What do you think makes fundraising events so important for the Club’s work?
Not sure how they could survive without the generous people who come to the events! I think our first year we managed to secure 6 child sponsorships and we thought we couldn’t possibly do better than that. Now I believe we have over 100 children sponsored for Club membership at the event. This money is critical, allowing the Boys & Girls Club to provide such high-quality programming to the kids in our community.
What would you say to someone considering getting involved with the Club as a volunteer?
We should all be giving back as much as we are able to. This does not have to always be financially. The Club, and especially the kids, would love to have you donate your time! You will not regret it!
How do you spend time outside of work and volunteer commitments?
Traveling, tennis, beach, and hanging with friends and my supportive partner of 25 years, Karl. I do donate to many causes and I am always up for helping a charity or neighbors in need. I too can always do more!!
