Fifteen eager members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monmouth County’s (BGCM) College Bound program will visit the University of Delaware, Temple University, and Rutgers University this April as they begin planning their post-high school educational endeavors.
After doing some research, College Bound members selected Delaware, Temple, and Rutgers, as their top prospective universities. The trips will give members the opportunity to tour the campuses, ask questions, and get information about the universities that will ultimately influence the college application process.
The BGCM College Bound program prepares academically proficient students from Asbury Park High School and Red Bank Regional High School for college by supplying them with the tools needed to apply to, and later attend college. The College Bound program offers members academic support and assists with the college application process by providing free SAT prep courses, financial information sessions, mock interviews, essay writing workshops, college tours, and mentors.
“A lot of our kids come from backgrounds where their parents are not college graduates, so they don’t know how to move forward when it comes time for college,” said Christy Crank, BGCM Truancy Director and College Bound Assistant. “Whether it’s applying for financial aid or signing up for the SAT’s, the College Bound program provides kids with the services they need in order to go to college.”
The College Bound program has a high graduation rate, ensuring 99% of BGCM members graduate from high school and successfully transition into a two or four year college or university.
