New Jersey Senator Jennifer Beck will run for hope alongside the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monmouth County (BGCM) Running Club Saturday, March 24, 2012, at 11:30 a.m. Together, Senator Beck and the BGCM runners will take steps to a better tomorrow and a healthy, active summer season.

“I was excited to hear that the Boys & Girls Club had a Running Club,” Beck said. “I have been an avid runner all my life and I love being able to pass this passion on to others. With Asbury being new to my district I saw it as perfect opportunity to see parts of one of my new towns while sharing a run with great kids.”

Senator Beck and the BGCM Running Club will run on the West Side of Asbury for four blocks, starting and ending at the BGCM Asbury Park Unit located at 1201 Monroe Ave. Darren Cunningham, BGCM Athletic Coordinator, manages the running club, made up of 15 members ranging in ages 7 to 15. Participants trained for the event by focusing on speed, agility, and the fundamentals of running.

“We are so proud to host this event on Saturday and so very grateful of all the efforts of Senator Beck and her staff on behalf of BGCM,” said Mari McMahon, BGCM Director of HR & Operations. “Jen has been a supporter and a friend.”

This event is open to all members of the community. Attendees will receive information about fitness and life skill programs offered at the Club and in the community. Participating partners include Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, Nike Factory, Jersey Shore Outlets, Jersey Shore Running Club, Verizon Foundation, Asbury Park Parent’s Listening Project, and Asbury Park Police Department.
