Actor / Entertainer and former Saturday Night Live star Joe Piscopo will make an appearance at the Boys & Girls Club of Asbury Park on Monroe Ave. on Friday August 24th at 3:00pm.  The event marks the culmination of a week long Summer Music Camp for township Middle School students run by the non-profit organization Jazz Arts Project and funded by the Neighborhood Revitalization Tax Credit program via Interfaith Neighbors of Asbury Park.

The Summer Music Camp is a pilot program for students just beginning to learn a musical instrument. It is a kind of “Head-start” program designed to bolster the townships in-school music departments with a long-term goal of creating ongoing and thriving school bands hopefully with more and more student participation in the years to come.  The study of music is known to strengthen motor skills, math and reading comprehension, increased test scores and an appreciation for the arts in general while boosting self-confidence, teamwork and creating well-rounded community minded young citizens.

Joe Piscopo has served as a spokesperson and advocate for Boys & Girls Clubs in New Jersey for more than four years and has unselfishly given of his time to build awareness of and engage others in the mission of the Club—–to assist youth from all backgrounds, especially those who need us most, in reaching their full potential as productive and responsible citizens.
