Executive Director Doug Eagles HeadshotThe Jay and Linda Grunin Foundation shares our vision of building greater futures for the children in our community. In addition to providing financial support, the Grunin Foundation is a tremendous resource to many area nonprofits, assisting in capacity building and fostering collaboration. 1. What is one of the most important qualities of a great leader?
While there are many qualities that I deem essential to great leadership, one that is easy to overlook is what psychologists refer to as mindful listening, or deep listening. This is a type of listening that aims to understand non-verbal cues, reads between the lines of what is being said, hears the emotion, detects needs and goals, and requires one to be fully present in the moment.
2. How does your organization take our community to the next level?
Every child comes to us with unique challenges, expectations, and potential. The Boys & Girls Club does whatever it takes to empower young people to take the obstacles before them and transform them into opportunities for growth. The key to this is our staff – the skilled, caring professionals who understand where every child is coming from and help each member shape a path toward a greater future.
3. What is your favorite thing to do in your spare time?
I love training for marathons. The discipline required to train your body and mind to push beyond the edge of what you think is possible is tremendously gratifying and teaches me new things about myself, about life, and about the world we live in.
4. What is your favorite food/recipe and why?
Anything with carbs – I need the energy to keep going!
