The Boys & Girls Clubs of Monmouth County (BGCM) has announced that registration is now open for the first annual “Hustle for Healing,” a virtual race that will raise awareness and funds for the Club’s critically important trauma-informed care initiatives.

During the month of May, which is also Mental Health Awareness Month, participants of all ages and abilities will compete in the virtual multi-sport, month-long event. Athletes can run, bike, swim, hike, or walk the distance of their choosing on any day in May. All proceeds will go towards BGCM’s targeted programming focused on preventing, protecting against, and helping Club members heal from the effects of childhood trauma through social-emotional learning, mindfulness, and trauma-informed care.

“As we become more aware of the effects the ongoing pandemic has had on the mental and emotional well-being of our community, we recognize the unique role the Club can play to facilitate healing and build resiliency in our youngest citizens,” stated Douglas Eagles, Executive Director of the Club. “We are only beginning to understand the far-reaching impact that the pandemic has had on our young people, and the Boys & Girls Club is committed to mitigating the adverse effects. The Hustle for Healing will help provide the resources we need.”

Registration is $35 ($20 for students), and athletes can choose to do additional fundraising for some great prizes along the way. A kick-off event will be held on May 6th at Tandem Cycle in Asbury Park, which is owned by event committee member Maryclaire Pennotti. Other committee members are Brian Shea, Matt Littlehale, Nancy Karpf, Robert White, Sue Flynn, Kevin Hill, Janice Fuller, Don Butler, Lisi Klus, Ray, and Doug Eagles.

Major sponsors of the event are Monmouth Ocean Regional Realtors, Nancy Karpf, the Grinberg Family Foundation, World Subaru, Monmouth Medical Center, Denholtz, Red Oak Mortgage, Splendor Design Group, K. Hovnanian Homes, PMC Associates, Brookdale Community College, Morgan Stanley, New Jersey Natural Gas, and Vydia.
