Our "Major Options" program invites professionals from various industries to meet with our teenagers to discuss the benefits, drawbacks, salary, schooling required, and inside information of their careers. We spent the month of February learning about the achievements and contributions of African Americans in the fields of medicine, education, civil rights, sports, government, and science. The month's activities culminated in a Black History Showcase, where our members presented a live interactive timeline of black history to friends, family, and staff. [...]
Over 50 teens attended our recent resume writing/interview skills workshop, part of our teen employment and empowerment program, Project L.E.A.D. (Learning, Earning, and Advancing Dreams). Project L.E.A.D. is designed specifically to help teens develop self esteem, workplace skills, and a sense of responsibility by focusing on mentorship, employment, and educational attainment.
Our kids had a great time in the Innovation Lab for a fun Valentine's Day project, digitally designing and printing their own cards. We love showing them new ways to explore their creativity!
Studies show that young people who engage in service do better in school, maintain positive relationships with adults, and avoid risky behaviors. On Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, our kids engaged in a variety of service projects, including making sandwiches for those in need at the Jersey Shore Rescue Mission.
Last month our kids were treated to some pretty spectacular holiday parties, all because of you!
