How long have you been at the Club?

I started at the Club as a member at the age of 8. I’ve been a part of the Club for 21 years, having worked as a Youth Development Professional, then a Site Coordinator, and I was recently promoted to Asbury Park Unit Director.

Can you describe a memorable moment or experience working with our kids that has had a lasting impact on you?

Before becoming a supervisor, I facilitated one of our targeted programs, SMART Girls (Skills Mastery and Resilience Training). I was able to grow supportive relationships with all the girls in the program; the girls trusted me and felt safe. Something that always sticks with me is the parents’ feedback. I’ve had a few parents thank me for what I taught their daughters, and because of me and the program they felt even more comfortable having conversations with their daughters. One parent actually said when she went to talk to her daughter about a specific topic she said, “Mom, I already know! Ms. Nini taught me.”

Are there any specific programs or initiatives within the Boys & Girls Club that you are particularly excited about or that you feel have made a significant difference?

Yes, the dance team! Through the dance program we focus on not only their skills, but also academics and behavior in and out of the Club. I have seen a big change from when we started to now. Their grades, their attitudes, and how they present themselves have gotten better. They hold each other accountable, they are excited to show us their report cards, and so much more! We’ve created a club within the Club…a family. I’m so excited to see how many opportunities open up for them.

Since it’s our 85th anniversary year, we’ve been thinking a lot about the Club’s impact and legacy. How do you want to be remembered by our Club members?

As the person who made a difference in their lives, big or small. As someone who was there for them whenever they needed it.

Outside of your role at the Boys & Girls Club, what are some of your hobbies or interests?

I love binge watching Netflix series and working on DIY projects!
